Our Favorite Round Pedestal Tables

Round dining pedestal tables are some of our favorites to work with, offering versatility, style and practicality. The round dining table is wonderful for inviting friends and family together and creating a sense of community.

There’s a psychology that goes with the circle as well, bringing a sense of completion, harmony and wholeness.

Circular dining tables add a balance to a square room, softening angles and creating contrast to the geometric shapes of a room.

Read on to see some examples of round dining tables we’ve used and would love to use in our designs!

Perhaps the most famous of the round pedestal tables is the Saarinen tulip table as part of the pedestal collection created in 1957 and still available exclusively through Knoll Furniture. Saarinen table has inspired many designs to also create uncomplicated bases with a focus on elegance and simplicity.

Banquettes and Bases

One of our favorite dining nooks. The perfect curved banquette settee anchors an oval breakfast nook table. The pairing with a hammered silver base compliments the chair legs, in a room that captures beautiful morning light.

Sculptural Crush

We’ve been crushing on this table from Theodore Alexander for a while now. Designed by Michael Berman, the brass base has a beautiful sculptural detail, with a turned wood carved element supporting the table top. Quarter sawn oak veneer is a stunning contrast to the metal base. And while we love this as a dining table, it’s perfectly suited as a foyer table, where the base can really sing.

Not just for nooks

In one of our favorite dining rooms, this solid 84 inch round table is a quiet backdrop to fabulous art and perfectly executed cane and wood dining chairs by Lillian August. With space for large family gatherings and plenty of legroom, the pedestal base emphasizes simple angles and supports the solid wood top. The smooth shape lends a sense of communal warmth that rigid rectangular dining tables lack.

Smart spaces

We love using round pedestal tables when we need to maximize space and gain more seating. Without added legs to maneuver around, seating becomes a little more flexible. We’ve had our eye on this Kingsport Round Table for a while now. It would work well in transitional coastal or updated country interiors alike, with two decorative metal collars for added interest and a more contemporary styled waterfall detail at the base.

Mix Match Metals

Table bases made from metal offer a lot of opportunity for mixing and matching. We could argue that the perfect breakfast nook with a view looks good with almost any table, but we love styling an interesting metallic base with glass table top for a little added wow!

Cerused Casual

We love the World’s Away Hamilton Dining table both for it’s classic, minimalist silhouette and it’s textured oak grain. Cerused oak adds a casual element, but with an elegant reversed bevel top and tapered base, this 59 inch table comfortably seats six and is at home in both casual and more elevated stylings.

Showrooms and Steel

We’ve loved designing the new Sarasota showroom for Dutchcrafters Amish Furniture and finding many new favorite tables along the way. This simple steel based pedestal table caught our eye. Completely customizable wood finishes make it a great option for creating a piece that we see working in almost any space.
