Cadence's Story

Cadence was our third room recipient for the Tampa Chapter of Savvy Giving By Design. She was diagnosed with Chronic Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura which is a critical bleeding condition where her platelet levels consistently remain under 10,000.

Cadence is 6 years old so had some good ideas about things she wanted to see in her new ‘dream’ space. Since she is also home schooled and has a lot of toys, since she has to spend much of her time at home. So one of our first design challenges was creating space for storing things and making sure they were categorized by school, play and fun!

Cadence also has some anxiety as a result of her condition, hospital visits and treatments. So a lot of the time, she and her Mom bunk down for cuddle time and reading before bed. A full size bed was important so they could both be comfortable on those nights when Cadence needs extra cuddles.

On Cadence’s wish list was a large scale floral wallpaper and unicorns! Two of our favorite things. We found this gorgeous print from York Wallcoverings and our friends Jeffrey Michaels were kind enough to donate this for her room.

We also added a storage console under the TV for extra books and storing toy cubbies. We loved the way the acrylic and gold handles make the space sophisticated enough for her to grow into.

Not only did our incredible partner Closet Art donate the interior of the closet, but our friends CHR Finishing created stunning shiplap does with lacquer pink paint that’s just delightful!

Part of the mission of Savvy Giving By Design includes doing a room makeover for siblings as well. Cadence’s older brother Jayden requested an urban, rustic space with an industrial edge where he could hang out with his friends and play guitar.

We loved using Stikwood to create the rustic vibe, with reclaimed wood accent walls. We also added a barn door to his closet to make the space more organized and accessible. (Again thanks to CHR Finishing)

We are so thankful to Erwin Electric for once again donating the installation of the lighting fixtures for these room!
