Swann House Phase 5: The Reveal Part 1

The time has come for the big reveal of our Swann House project - and if you’ve been following along the way it’s been an adventure we’ve loved being a part of. Renovating a home originally built in 1926 is not for the faint of heart. We were so thankful for a home that inspired whimsical design details, creative solutions and architectural interest.

As we enter into the sunroom, we are greeted by large arched windows with an uninterrupted view to the trees and park of Swann Circle. While the windows needed to be replaced, with a more resilient and code compliant style, the shape and style had always been part of the appeal of this light filled room. Custom stained glass created a backdrop to the bespoke bar cabinetry featuring hidden curved storage and beverage center.

If you know us, then you know we love wallpaper and this room was the perfect place to really have our wallpaper dreams come true. The maximalist dining room features jungle inspired wallpaper with monkeys and birds and is accented with an abstract ceiling wallpaper with gold brush stroke design. Our dining furniture was created with attention to the exterior color palette of the original home. Deep greens in velvet and warm neutral patterns combined with brass accents in nail heads and lighting. Layered window treatments were used to complete the space and create a cozy and inviting space for dining.

The original dining room was small and closed off, so we widened the entry into the kitchen to create a feeling of more space. This meant we were able to continue the wallpaper from the ceiling into the kitchen. A creative way to tie the rooms together, and a compliment to the cabinetry and brick tones (the brick backsplash we kept from the original kitchen as a nod to the beautiful past).

Originally the kitchen was located on the West of the home, where it remains today. After several, not so great, remodels the kitchen had become cramped and dark. We opened up the space so that instead of a galley kitchen we could accommodate an island and an additional window on the West wall. The space is now light filled and beautiful, with custom cabinetry, a unique metal hood with brass accents and the original brick on the interior walls.

Downstairs, the guest room is another space with a layered approach. With wallpaper, window treatments, soft fabrics and textured cabinetry. The calmer tones are conducive to relaxation and the home owner’s own art collection adds a bold pop with vibrant style.

Inspiration for the guest bathroom grew from this stunning Arte vinyl wallpaper, resplendent with leaves and greenery. We chose elegant Carrera marble for the shower and paired it with black porcelain tile floors. Deep green wainscot with a simple shaker style panel detail wraps the entire bathroom and the console style sink keeps the floor space in that corner open. We added a vintage style freestanding cabinet with brass hardware for linen storage with an edge.

Wine storage was important and creating a display space under the stair allowed us to maximize wasted space while creating a beautiful focal point. The mosaic marble tile floor and wall mounted wine display is perfectly located between the kitchen and family room for easy access while entertaining.

Stay tuned for part 2 when we take you upstairs to discover the rest of this home…
